City View Centre for Child and Family Services

Parents as Teachers Program, P.A.T. Program Ottawa

We are pleased to be able to offer you the unique opportunity of becoming one of our families in our “Parents as Teachers” program. This program is available to families (who are expecting), have newborns or children up to 3 years of age. “Parents as Teachers” is a strength based program designed to enhance and promote all areas of learning including language, intellectual, social and motor development. The program is modeled from the Born to Learn Institute of St. Louis, Missouri and is founded on proven neuroscience research.

Here at City View Centre for Child and Family Services we are fortunate enough to have a certified Parent Educator who will gladly make regular visits to your home where together you will work towards enhancing all areas of your child’s development.

Highlights of the Program are:

Regular visits to your home. You choose a convenient time. Visits allow the Parent Educator to work with you on activities that will enhance areas of development relevant to your child and by taking advantage of the neuroscience proven research and “windows of opportunity”. Visits offer an opportunity for you to share your parenting successes and also voice your concerns.

Working together on your strengths as a Parent. You would be amazed at how many wonderful things you are already doing for your child’s neuroscience development and how many more wonderful things you can add.

Developmental screenings, hearing screenings and visual screenings.

Ongoing coaching, support and referrals.

Access to hand outs and valuable information on children’s development, health, safety and well being.

Access to Born to Learn Institute Parent as Teachers educational videos

Parent Meetings to share and network with other participants. (approximately 2 a year)
